As you begin to build your model railroad, especially when you are creating your terrain and adding some scenery, you suddenly realize that this is more than trains running around in circles. This is a creation of art - just like any sculpture or painting would be. What an amazing revelation - that you are now an artist in your own right. Here is a creative expression of yourself, based on your own design, your own track-plan, the era and locale that you have chosen - the terrain you have built and most of all the scenery that you have made. This is not like any other layout in the world. It is a truly unique work of art.
Many have created other works of art to depict the beauty of trains, locomotives, freight and passenger cars that have been so much a part of our American history. I have selected a few of them here just to inspire you as you are building your own 3D sculpture. You can buy any of them if you wish, but that wasn't the purpose of this page. It was to make you think about yourself as an artist, just like the ones who made these photos, pictures or posters.

This unique Model Railroad Museum was established in November of 2024 as a non-profit community organization featuring ten operating model railroads in all the different major scales, a STEM Program for students, historical displays, group tours and clinics on how to develop your skills as a model railroader. It's definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
